10-Day Buddhist Philosophy & Yoga Wellness Retreat in Rural Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka · 10 days · From USD 789

The retreat runs on a simple daily structure. Mornings begin at 6:30am with a 60-minute yoga class — Bernardo, the lead teacher, draws on traditional Hatha with elements of Vinyasa, Kundalini, and alignment work. After breakfast (fresh fruit, rice dishes, herbal teas), there's an orientation for new arrivals, then the rest of the morning is open: you can book an Ayurvedic consultation, swim laps in the pool, or walk into the village.

Lunch and dinner are both Ayurvedic, cooked from ingredients grown in the villa's own organic gardens. The resident doctor designs the menus, and dishes lean vegetarian — lentil soups, coconut curries, vegetable stir-fries. Guests consistently mention the food as a highlight; the retreat has even published a cookbook based on what they serve.

Afternoons include optional activities: rubber tapping demonstrations (seasonal), vegetable picking, cooking classes, or just downtime. At 5pm there's a second yoga session, followed by meditation at 6pm and dinner at 6:30pm. After dinner, there are discussions with the Ayurvedic doctor or yoga teacher — topics rotate between yoga philosophy, improving daily habits, and how to incorporate Ayurveda at home.

The Buddhist philosophy elements are spread across the week: a formal talk, a visit to a local temple, and a chance to sit down with a monk. Ishara, the villa's owner, leads the meditation sessions — she's practised and studied Buddhism for over eight years and grounds the teaching in her own experience rather than abstract concepts.

The villa itself is a renovated colonial house with ensuite rooms decorated in period style — fans and high ceilings in the standard rooms, air conditioning and bathtubs in the suites. The grounds feel like a private rainforest, with birds, butterflies, and enough space that you don't feel crowded even at full capacity. Previous guests describe it as 'a little paradise' where you can disconnect completely.
