Home › Retreats › 10-Day Guided Royal Enfield Motorcycle Tour Through Spiti Valley, India
India · 10 days · From USD 1450
Day one is arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport, where a representative meets you and transfers you to your Delhi hotel. Day two is a private minibus to Shimla, 340 km and six to seven hours, with the afternoon spent meeting the team and getting familiar with your Royal Enfield and with mountain traffic. The bikes come out properly on day three: Shimla to Sarahan, 160 km of zigzag road, arriving in a town at 2,300 metres that was the old capital of the Bushahr region. You visit the Bhimakali Temple and attend the evening aarti.
Day four runs 95 km along the Hindustan-Tibet Highway to Kalpa, where you pick up the inner-line permit for the Line of Control zone of Spiti Valley. Kalpa sits among apple and cherry orchards below the Kinner Kailash peaks. Day five is the long one into Spiti proper — 170 km to Tabo, with stops at Pooh and Sumdho along the Spiti River, lunch at Nako, and the 1,000-year-old Tabo Monastery on arrival.
Day six is the highest riding: Tabo to Kaza via Dhankar's clifftop monastery, on to Komic, the highest motorable village in the world, and Hikkim, home to the highest post office. You finish in Kaza after seeing the region's largest Buddha statue. The route continues through Kibber and Langza, where wildlife sightings are possible, then over Kunzum Pass to a safari-style camp near the crescent-shaped Chandrataal Lake — one night under canvas with star-filled skies.
The return runs through the Rohtang Atal Tunnel, the longest high-altitude tunnel in the world, descending to Manali for a leisurely final day before the tour ends. A Royal Enfield mechanic rides with the group for the entire trip, and essential spare parts travel in the 4x4. Instruction is in English, with French support available.
What separates this from a standard Himalayan bike hire is the support structure: a dedicated road captain, a mechanic on the ride, a 4x4 carrying extra fuel and luggage, first-aid and an oxygen cylinder, and permits and wildlife entry fees handled for you. The guide, Sandy, is local to the foothills and has a decade of leading groups through these passes — the monasteries and riverside villages get context, not just a photo stop.
