Nepal · 10 days · From USD 849
The Langtang Valley has been a trekking route for decades, but this retreat adds a yoga and meditation layer that most standard treks don't have. Every walking day kicks off with a tea-and-yoga session before breakfast, and there's an evening class after you've checked into the lodge, often with a mountain backdrop. The idea is simple — the yoga loosens up your legs and opens your chest after long hours of climbing, and the breathing work helps at altitude.
The trek itself is a classic. You start in Kathmandu, drive north on a winding road that follows the Trishuli River, then walk from Syabrubesi through bamboo and rhododendron forest. Around day four the valley opens up, and you get your first proper views of Langtang Lirung and the surrounding peaks. There are yaks grazing, prayer wheels spinning, and the occasional monk in maroon robes. On day five you reach Kyanjin Gompa, a village that sits below a massive icefall, and you get a whole day to rest, explore the cheese factory, or push up to Tsergo Ri for a panorama that includes Shishapangma in Tibet.
The retreat is small — usually a handful of guests, though it varies by season — and the atmosphere feels more like a guided group trip than a formal retreat centre. There's no set schedule on the rest day, and the guide adapts the pace to who's in the group. The lodges are basic but comfortable, the food is Nepali home cooking, and the whole experience is a proper mountain adventure rather than a spa holiday. It's the kind of trip where you come back tired in the best way and with two weeks' worth of stories.
