Thailand · 14 days · From USD 849
Every day at JP Boxing Gym follows a rhythm that balances hard training with proper recovery. Mornings usually begin with a run — along the river, through the countryside, or once a week up to a sacred temple. Training sessions cover Muay Thai and Western Boxing, with technique work on pads and bags, plus fun CrossFit and functional strength sessions. Afternoons bring a second session, often focused on clinching, sparring drills, or conditioning, always with a cool-down and stretching. The sauna and ice bath are open to you all day, and there's a guided yoga class you can join for an extra fee.
What makes this retreat stand out from a standard gym camp is the cultural and recovery side. You'll learn the Wai Kru / Ram Muay — the ceremonial dance fighters perform before a bout — and hear the history of Muay Thai Boran, the ancient battlefield art. Weekly activities include a run up the red stone steps of the "Red Buddha Run" to a Chinese temple, offering alms to monks at a 700-year-old temple on a Saturday morning, and a group night-market trip. Sundays are a proper day off, when JP and his family take everyone to a favourite local spot — sometimes the ruins of Sukhothai Historical Park, sometimes the White Temple, sometimes a waterfall.
The coaching team is led by Kru Jay, who has trained professional and Olympic-level fighters, but they're just as comfortable with first-timers. The gym itself has a full CrossFit area with free weights, bags, and rings, plus a yoga room. Guests stay in simple private rooms with en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning, and there's always someone around to help plan your free time or arrange a motorbike rental.
Phitsanulok itself is worth exploring — it's an old capital with temples, the Nan river running through it, and night markets that come alive after dark. The camp is a short walk from the centre, so you can easily head out for a coffee or a wander between sessions. By the end of two weeks, most guests say they've improved their Muay Thai, lost weight, made friends, and picked up more than a few Thai phrases.
