15-Day Himalayan Yoga Trek to Everest Base Camp

15-Day Himalayan Yoga Trek to Everest Base Camp

Kathmandu · 15 days · From USD 1725

The trek starts with a scenic 35-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,860m), one of the world's most dramatic airport approaches, threading between mountain peaks. From there, you walk for 12 days, gradually gaining altitude through the Khumbu Valley.

The first few days take you through lower-altitude villages—Phakding, Namche Bazaar—where you cross suspension bridges, pass mani walls carved with Buddhist prayers, and start to see the big peaks appear above the treeline. Namche is the main trading town of the region, with internet cafés, bakeries, and gear shops; you spend an extra night here for acclimatisation, with a short hike to the Everest View Hotel viewpoint.

From Namche, the route climbs through forest—blue pine, birch, rhododendron—to Tengboche, home to the most important Sherpa monastery in the region. The monastery sits on a ridge with direct views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse. Above Tengboche, the landscape changes: fewer trees, more yak pastures, stone chortens, and the ever-present white peaks.

The highest nights are spent at Lobuche (4,900m) and Gorak Shep (5,150m), basic teahouse lodges with thin air and cold nights. From Gorak Shep, you make the final push to Everest Base Camp itself—rocky moraine, glacial streams, prayer flags, and the Khumbu Icefall visible above. The following morning, you climb Kala Patthar before sunrise for what's widely considered the best viewpoint of Everest.

Yoga sessions happen twice daily: gentle stretching and breathwork in the morning before the day's walk, and a longer restorative session in the evening after dinner. The practice is adapted for altitude and tired legs—nothing strenuous, focused on recovery and breathing. Jay, the guide, leads both the trekking and the yoga; he trained at Nepal's national tourism academy and has years of experience on these trails.
