Home › Retreats › 2-Day Jungle Yoga Escape in Sri Lanka's Hill Country
Sri Lanka · 2 days · From USD 306
The Samadhi Centre is set on an old tea plantation on the edge of the Dumbara valley, about 23 kilometers from Kandy. The whole place is built from natural materials and lit with oil lamps, which gives it a calm, old-village feel. There are thirteen pavilions leaning into the hillside, each with its own verandah looking out over paddy fields and mountains. You're a house-guest rather than a customer here – the owner Waruna and his staff treat you personally, and the communal spirit is strong.
Your days are simple: a yoga session in the open-sided shala with the river below, a home-cooked meal from produce grown on the grounds, and time to explore the forest – there are mango, mahogany, and jak trees, plus giant bamboo and avocado. A trip to the waterfall for a swim and a picnic is included, and you can wander to the river for a dip or just sit on your verandah and watch the fireflies. There's no mobile signal, which forces a proper break from screens.
The yoga is Hatha and Iyengar style, and mats and belts are provided. You don't need to be advanced – all levels are welcome, and the sessions are tailored to where you are. The setting itself does a lot of the work: tree frogs calling at dawn, deer moving in the bush, and the whisper of bamboo in the breeze. This is not a resort with gyms and spas; it's a back-to-nature retreat for people who want to reconnect with a simpler pace of life.
