200-Hour Desert Yoga Teacher Training in Joshua Tree's High Desert

The core of this training is the 200-hour curriculum, which covers the essential material for Yoga Alliance registration. You'll study the detailed anatomy of 45 traditional poses, learn the art of sequencing classes, and get introduced to pranayama and meditation techniques. There are specific workshops on the Yamas and Niyamas, the eight limbs of yoga, and how to lead others in meditation. A special focus is on 'the magic of Savasana'—learning how to guide students into deep relaxation. Far from being just theory, you'll get hands-on experience by teaching small groups from early in the course.

The training is led by Stephania Spitzer (E-RYT 200, RYT 500) and Elizabeth Jane 'EJ' (E-RYT 500). Stephania began with Iyengar and Vinyasa yoga, completed her 200-hour training in Tulum, and later a 300-hour in India, where she now spends half the year. Her teaching is a dynamic, flowing style that connects breath with movement. EJ has served as a lead teacher on multiple teacher trainings across India, Malta, Indonesia, and Mexico and is also a certified sound healer and breathwork facilitator, bringing those elements into her classes.

The location is a major part of the experience. Desert Sage House sits on five acres with direct access to the stark beauty of the high desert. The property itself is a modern sanctuary with an eclectic, arty vibe. The daily schedule includes early morning meditation and asana, followed by study blocks that break for meals. Afternoons may be given over to workshops, self-study, or practice teaching. Evenings could involve restorative yoga, yoga nidra, or sound healing sessions. With all meals provided, the only thing you need to focus on is the training and your own growth.
