200-Hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training in an Ubud Eco-Village, Bali

Indonesia · 24 days · From EUR 1900

A typical weekday runs on a steady rhythm. You wake to 6 AM detox ginger tea, then start with early-morning pranayama led by Dipali, followed by Hatha asana practice and kriyas. Breakfast is served at the eco-village restaurant, then the morning continues with theory — philosophy, anatomy, or the classical texts. Afternoons bring asana labs, where you break postures down and learn how to actually teach and adjust them, plus mantra and meditation sessions. Evenings close with more practice before dinner, and the day finishes around 8 PM. Saturdays are lighter, built around anatomy and teaching methodology, and Sundays are for the two excursions and rest.

What sets this apart from a lot of 200-hour trainings is the depth of the study. The curriculum is rooted in traditional Hatha from an Indian lineage, and the teachers are serious academics as well as practitioners. You're reading Patanjali and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, not skimming a watered-down overview, and you leave able to explain why you do what you do on the mat.

The lead teacher, Simon, has a French national-championship gymnastics background that shifted into traditional yoga after years living between England, India and Australia. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Education from Kaivalyadhama College in India (where he ranked second of 58), a Bachelor of Psychology with high distinction, and is finishing a Master's in Yoga and Naturopathy. He specialises in pranayama and deep meditation. He's joined by Dipali, an Indian philosophy and pranayama teacher who lectured at Kaivalyadhama, and Shailesh, a Rishikesh-born teacher who ran the asana lab and teaching methodology sessions.

The setting matters here too. Pejeng is a genuinely traditional Balinese village, and the eco-village itself sits on sacred land with an aquaponic garden, a walking meditation maze and organic fruit and vegetable gardens. The founder, Ludwig, lived for over ten years with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the creator of Transcendental Meditation — so the place has a real lineage behind it, not just atmosphere.

Between the fire ceremony, the Balinese water purification ritual, the weekly sound baths and the bonus sound healing course, there's a lot of Balinese and yogic ritual woven through the four weeks. It's intense — plan to be busy most waking hours — but that intensity is the point. People come out of this one able to teach.
