Indonesia · 22 days · From USD 1000
The course is built around traditional yogic teachings, with Ashtanga's eight-limbed path as the backbone. You'll study the Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, and Hatha Yoga Pradipika, but the real work is physical. Each day includes asana practice in several styles: the Ashtanga Vinyasa fundamental series, Sivananda's 12 basic Hatha asanas, anti-gravity inversions in Aerial yoga, and partner work in Acro yoga workshops. You'll learn adjustments, sequencing, and how to use props.
The teaching methodology module gets you in front of the room early. You practice voice tone, class timing, and asana sequencing with small and large groups, and you receive feedback from instructors. Anatomy and physiology cover the skeletal and muscular systems, plus the energetic anatomy of pranayama—chakras, energy bodies, and pranic channels. Philosophy sessions explore the purpose of yoga, the eight limbs, and the lives of notable yogis.
Lead teacher Jagjeet Singh grew up in a village near Rishikesh, where his grandfather introduced him to yoga. He holds master's degrees in philosophy and in human consciousness and yogic sciences, and he has been teaching since 2008. He covers philosophy, anatomy, pranayama, and meditation. The school's organizer, Shefali, is an ex-corporate employee turned yoga teacher and mindset coach who leads the more dynamic morning vinyasa classes; several recent guests called them the highlight of the retreat. She combines breathwork, meditation, and movement, and evening sessions are more calming.
The schedule intentionally leaves space. Sundays are free for excursions, and there are evening activities like kirtan, movie nights, and a fire ceremony. A typical day runs from around 7am to 6pm with breaks for meals and rest, giving you time to explore Ubud or just lie by the pool. Students range from beginners to experienced practitioners, and ages have spanned from 15 to 60. Group size tops out at 15, so you get personal attention.
