Rishikesh · 23 days · From USD 861
The 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Vamayog is a month-long deep dive into yoga in the place where it originated. The school is set in the lap of the Himalayas, 28 km upstream from Rishikesh, which means you get the spiritual energy of the area without the noise of the town. There’s also a campus in Dehradun, so you have options depending on what kind of setting you want.
The curriculum is broken into daily blocks. Mornings are for asana practice, often with a focus on alignment and breath. Afternoons cover yoga anatomy, philosophy, and the art of teaching. You’ll learn how to adjust students, how to sequence a class, and the theory behind the poses. The teaching is hands-on—you’ll practice teaching your peers, get feedback, and fine-tune your cues. Evening sessions might include pranayama, meditation, mantra chanting, kirtan, or a movie night. Weekends are mostly free, with optional excursions like the waterfall trip, temple visits, and nature hikes.
What makes this training different is the breadth of styles. The school teaches Hatha, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Kundalini, Yin, and more, so you graduate with a multi-style toolkit. The teachers—Tushar and Megha—are both from Rishikesh with years of experience. Tushar has a background in yoga therapy and sports, while Megha specializes in Hatha, philosophy, and meditation, and has taught in India and China. They’re both known for being encouraging but also for pushing you to improve.
The campus itself is simple but comfortable. Rooms are either private or shared, with WiFi, CCTV, and hot water. The food is all sattvic—vegetarian or vegan—and prepared fresh with local, seasonal ingredients. There’s a restaurant on-site, a garden, and a yoga shala. The program includes a fire ceremony, a Ganga puja, and a trip to the Kunjapuri Temple, which is a sunrise viewpoint. It’s a full cultural as well as yoga immersion.
