Home › Retreats › 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Wellness Escape in Kathmandu, Nepal
Kathmandu · 21 days · From USD 1207
The training is built around a daily schedule that starts at 7am with asana practice and runs through to an 8:30pm lights-out. Morning sessions focus on alignment and building a home practice you can sustain after you leave. Afternoons are where the teacher training part kicks in — anatomy, physiology, philosophy and chanting, then teaching methodology where you practice sequencing, demonstration and correction on your fellow students.
What sets this course apart from a typical beach YTT is the content depth. You'll cover over 100 asanas with their Sanskrit names, benefits and contraindications, learn eight different pranayama techniques, and study meditation styles from Vipassana to chakra and mantra work. The philosophy module is rooted in the Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads, taught practically rather than as dry theory. There's also a yoga detox component covering the six kriyas — Neti, Dhauti, Nauli, Basti, Trataka and Kapalbhati.
The location matters here. Kathmandu itself is noisy and polluted, and the retreat sits apart from that, on the edge of the Nagarjun forest, with the Monkey Temple and Boudhanath Stupa a short drive away. The rooftop view of the Himalayas is a daily reminder of where you are. Guests in reviews mention the contrast between the chaos of the city and the calm of the property — it feels like a genuine retreat from the city even though it's only minutes from Thamel.
The lead teacher, Prakash Acharya, brings an unusual background — a physics degree before an M.Sc. in Yogic Science and Human Consciousness, then years of traditional study in ashrams and caves. He's also the founder of Nepal Ayurveda Home and works on social projects for children's education in remote Nepal. Tirtha and RamHari round out the team, both with Yoga Alliance certification in Hatha and Ashtanga.
