21-Day 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Kerala, India

Kerala · 21 days · From USD 549

The 200-hour teacher training at Adishakti Yogashala is a full-immersion program that goes far beyond learning to strike a pose. It's built on a holistic curriculum that includes Hatha Yoga—tracing its roots to the Nath tradition and Patanjali—where you learn to cultivate stability and comfort in postures while syncing breath with movement. Ashtanga Yoga is also a core component, with students working on the first series while gaining the tools to establish a daily practice that can progress through all six series over a lifetime.

Pranayama is taken seriously here—not just as a breathing exercise, but as a way to guide and expand your life force. You'll explore the classical techniques that calm the mind and balance the body, and you'll practice bandhas (energy locks) and Yoga Nidra to deepen your internal awareness. Mantra and Bhakti yoga are woven into the schedule through daily chanting and kirtan, helping you connect with the devotional heart of the tradition. Sound healing sessions with Tibetan singing bowls add another layer, offering a centuries-old meditation practice that leaves you feeling deeply grounded.

The days are structured to give you a rounded experience: mornings typically start with asana practice, followed by breakfast and then theory or philosophy sessions. Afternoons might be dedicated to teaching methodology, where you learn how to sequence classes, provide adjustments, and find your voice as a teacher. Evening activities—kirtan, movie nights, or group discussions—help build a sense of community among the small cohort of students. Ayurvedic principles are integrated throughout, including an optional consultation (at extra charge) and an emphasis on sattvic vegetarian meals.

Location plays a huge part in the experience. Varkala is a special place—a cliffside town on the Arabian Sea with a reputation for spiritual energy. The yoga shala is just a few minutes' walk from the main beaches, and the Papanasam Beach, with its mineral springs, is nearby. You're surrounded by the sound of waves, tropical greenery, and an atmosphere that encourages introspection. The homestay accommodation is simple, clean, and comfortable, with rooms described as a 'home away from home' by past guests.

Instructors are seasoned and dedicated, with the lead facilitator, Binoy, having over a decade of teaching experience. Born and raised in Kerala, he blends classical yogic wisdom with a grounded, modern approach. The school itself is internationally registered with Yoga Alliance, so upon completion you'll receive a certification that qualifies you to teach worldwide. You'll also get practical support to register with Yoga Alliance, plus pre- and post-retreat guidance from the team, ensuring the learning extends beyond the 21 days.
