21-Day Vyayam Intensive Yoga Teacher Training in the Hungarian Forest

For three weeks, you’ll study Vyayam in depth—its roots, its practice, and how to teach it. Vyayam is often described as the hidden science of warrior-yogis, and this course is designed to give you both the physical mastery and the theoretical knowledge to pass it on. The training covers traditional movement tables, breathing techniques, joint mobilization, and the philosophy behind it all.

The instructors are Vedic monks and nuns who live the practice every day. Swami Shankaratilaka, the founder of the International Vedic Foundation, has studied Vyayam for over 50 years with traditional masters in India, and he leads the teaching team. Dr. Shankari, who has a Master’s degree in Yoga Therapy from Dehradun, India, also teaches. She has studied with her Guru for over 20 years and brings a grounded, compassionate approach.

The ashram itself is a traditional space in the middle of nature, with gardens, a library, a yoga shala, and quiet spots for personal practice. The days are full, but there’s also personal study time and a free day each week (September 23 and 30) to explore the forest, walk to the Danube, or simply rest. The food is vegetarian and Ayurvedic, prepared by the resident nuns, and many guests say it’s a highlight.

What makes this different from a typical yoga teacher training is the focus on Vyayam itself—a practice that predates and informs many martial arts and yoga styles. You’ll learn about its connection to the Vedic tradition, Tantra, and classical yoga, and you’ll gain a practical skill set that you can incorporate into your own teaching or personal practice immediately.
