22-Day Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training Certification in Phuket

Thailand · 22 days · From USD 2363

The 200-hour Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training at TAYSP is a three-week course that compresses what usually takes a month into 22 days. The program is designed to give you both deep personal practice and the skills to teach—posture alignment, modifications for different body types, and how to sequence a balanced class. You will study anatomy with a strong emphasis on kinesiology, learn the art of adjustment, and get an introduction to yoga therapy. The theoretical side covers Indian philosophy, yoga psychology, and ancient texts, so you have a complete picture rather than just physical practice.

The daily schedule is rigid and full, deliberately. It runs from 7:30 in the morning until 6:30 at night, with a free day on Sunday. Mornings start with Ashtanga practice in the Mysore or led format, followed by brunch. The late morning is for self-study, then afternoons are split between technique (adjustments, alignment, methodology) and restorative work like yoga nidra and pranayama. Evenings bring lectures, workshops, and a closing meditation. This rhythm is demanding, but it builds steady progress and gives you no distraction from the material.

What makes this training different from many others is the small size—normally capped at five students—and the people teaching it. Rich and Sofya are a couple who live and practice Ashtanga in Phuket. Rich trained as a medical doctor in Russia before shifting to yoga therapy, and Sofya has a BA in theology and philosophy. Both study in Mysore with Sharath Jois, and they bring a level of anatomical knowledge and traditional grounding you don't see everywhere. They live on-site with their young son, so yoga is genuinely their life, not a side business.

The course covers all the essentials you need to start teaching: sequencing, time management, teaching ethics, and practical class construction. By the end, you will have practiced adjusting the majority of the Primary Series for different body types and levels, and you will have run your own class. Certification is approved by Yoga Alliance International, so your hours count toward registered teacher status. The training also includes evening activities like kirtan and movie nights, which help build community with the other trainees.
