Home › Retreats › 23-Day Yoga Therapy Teacher Training in Goa, India
India · 23 days · From USD 1551
The training runs from 7:15 am to 6:30 pm most days, with a break for lunch and rest. Mornings begin with a led or Mysore-style asana practice, focusing on alignment-based Iyengar postures. After breakfast, you'll move into Ayurveda and then the asana lab, where you learn to sequence poses for specific ailments and practice using props like blocks, straps, and bolsters. Afternoons cover yoga anatomy, philosophy, and the sutras, followed by a tea break and then pranayama, mudras, and meditation. The schedule stays the same throughout the month, but the subjects build on each other.
What sets this course apart is the therapy focus. This isn't a general 200-hour teacher training—it's specifically about using yoga to work with chronic illness, injury, and the needs of older clients. You'll learn health evaluation, how to design a therapy sequence for a given disease, and how to modify postures for people who can't do the full expressions. The curriculum covers anti-rheumatic exercises for Vata management, digestion exercises for Pitta, and eye exercises, among others. You'll also get a working understanding of Ayurveda, including concepts of health and disease from that tradition, and how to combine both approaches in your teaching.
The location is deliberately remote. Keri village is quiet, with a few local shops and a short walk or tuk-tuk ride down to Querim Beach. The school has a Wi-Fi connection, but this is a place to disconnect from city life. Weekends are mostly free: Saturday is a half day of study until 1 pm, and Sunday is completely off. Students typically use this time to explore the nearby beaches, hike to the Terekhol Fort, or visit the Sweet Water Lake. The small batch size—between 8 and 12 students—means you get a lot of personal attention from the teachers, who are all experienced in their fields.
Your lead teacher is Sukhvinder Singh (Chaitanya), the founder and director of the institute, with over 20,000 hours of teaching experience and certifications in multiple yoga styles. He's joined by a small team: Seema Bedi, a Canadian mindfulness teacher; Dr. Vivek Mohindra, an Ayurvedic doctor with 30 years of experience; and Rana Pratap Singh, an Ashtanga and Hatha specialist. Together, they cover the practical, philosophical, and medical sides of yoga therapy.
