Home › Retreats › 24-Day Hatha & Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training in Kerala
Kerala · 24 days · From USD 1077
The training runs over 24 days and 23 nights, with a curriculum that covers everything from classical Hatha yoga sequences and Ashtanga primary series to pranayama, mudras, mantra, yoga nidra, meditation, philosophy, anatomy, and teaching practice. Each subject is taught by a specialist, so you're learning from people who genuinely know their area — whether that's Saraswathi for traditional Hatha, Abin for Ashtanga and metaphysics, or Gangesha for philosophy and meditation.
Days start early, following the traditional yogic routine: sunrise practice, breakfast, morning study, lunch, afternoon sessions, and evening classes on philosophy or meditation. The structure is intensive, but there are breaks and excursions built in, and the weekends are lighter so you can explore Varkala's cliffs, beach, and local life.
The teaching is hands-on. You'll learn how to adjust and align postures, how to sequence a class, and how to talk to students — not just how to do the asanas yourself. By the end, you'll have taught practice classes and have the confidence to step into a real yoga class or start your own.
The location is a big part of the experience. Varkala is a coastal town known for its dramatic red cliffs and long sandy beach, and the academy is close enough to walk. Kerala is also the home of Ayurveda and Kalaripayattu, so you're surrounded by the wellness culture that yoga comes from. The food is local, mostly vegetarian, and cooked with fresh ingredients from nearby farms.
All of this adds up to a retreat that's as much about lifestyle as certification. You'll leave with a teaching qualification, but also with a much deeper personal practice and a feel for how yoga fits into daily life.
