Home › Retreats › 29-Day Advanced Ashtanga & Hatha Yoga Teacher Training in Mysore, India
India · 29 days · From USD 896
This isn't a gentle yoga retreat—it's a rigorous, month-long teacher training. Each day starts with a led Ashtanga class at 6:00 AM, followed by kriyas (cleansing practices) and then hours of teaching methodology, adjustment training, and workshop-style sessions. You'll study the full curriculum: the primary, intermediate, and advanced Ashtanga series, yoga therapy applications for everything from back pain to diabetes, prenatal and postnatal yoga, chakra balancing, and the philosophy of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. You'll also practice partner yoga (acro yoga), learn different sun salutation variations, and get hands-on with props in the Iyengar tradition.
What makes this course different from a standard 300-hour training is its depth and authenticity. It's taught in the style of the Krishnamacharya tradition, with a strong emphasis on breath, bandhas, and alignment. You'll learn not just how to do poses, but how to correct students, sequence classes logically, and adapt poses using props and partner support. The optional two-week internship is a huge bonus—you'll assist in live classes, getting real feedback on your teaching, which is where the confidence really builds.
The location in Mysore adds another layer. This is the home of Ashtanga yoga, and the city is steeped in yoga history. The school is in Gokulam, a neighborhood known for its yoga community, so you'll be surrounded by practitioners from around the world. The atmosphere is focused and studious, but there's also time to cycle to the Mysore Palace, visit local cafes, or simply relax in the library. The food is simple, healthy vegetarian South Indian cooking, served three times a day.
You'll leave with not just a 300-hour Yoga Alliance certification, but also practical skills you can use immediately: you'll know how to run a yoga therapy session for chronic back pain, how to lead a prenatal class, how to guide students through advanced inversions and hand balances. And with the internship (which you can extend), you'll have real teaching experience under your belt.
