Home › Retreats › 3-Day Active Yoga & Cultural Nature Retreat in Kandy, Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka · 3 days · From EUR 370
Mornings here start with yoga, usually outdoors, with Victoria Lake on one side and the Knuckles range on the other. Sessions are led by the Welikande Yoga Retreats team, and they're active — expect to move rather than hold long passive stretches. After practice, breakfast is Sri Lankan: hoppers, dhal, coconut sambol, fresh fruit from nearby farms.
Each day then has its own outing. One day it might be a walk to a waterfall; another, a trail through the hills where you'll spot birds and maybe monkeys. The point is that you're not repeating the same loop — the programme is built so that every day brings something new.
Afternoons are slower. There's time to read, nap, or walk into Kandy town if you want to see the Temple of the Tooth or the market. Some days include a second, gentler yoga session before dinner.
Dinner is again local: rice and curry with several vegetable dishes, usually something from the garden that day. The food isn't a generic wellness menu — it's what people in Kandy actually eat.
The retreat is three days, which is short enough to fit into a longer Sri Lanka trip and long enough to feel like you've actually settled into the rhythm of the place. It's run by Welikande Yoga Retreats, who are based on a Sri Lankan estate and have been hosting guests in this region.
What makes it different from a standard yoga retreat is the balance: you get real practice, but you also get out into the landscape and the culture. The hosts keep the group small and the atmosphere warm, so it doesn't feel like a hotel package.
