30-Day Advanced Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh, India

30-Day Advanced Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh, India

Rishikesh · 30 days

The training runs over 30 days in Upper Tapovan, Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. Upper Tapovan sits above the main town, which means less traffic noise and a shorter walk to some of the classic Rishikesh spots like Laxman Jhula and the riverside ghats. The ashram is the base for the whole month — you practise, eat and sleep in the same place, which is what makes a training this long actually work. There's no commute and no decision-making about where to eat; the structure is there so you can focus on the syllabus.

The curriculum is built around classical Hatha Yoga, with daily meditation and full modules on anatomy and yogic philosophy. Because this is a 300-hour course, it goes beyond the introductory material most 200-hour programmes cover. You'll spend time on more advanced asana, on adjustments and hands-on assists, on sequencing your own classes, and on the theory that sits behind the practice. This is a Yoga Alliance-recognised level of training (300-hour), so if you're teaching or plan to, it counts towards your registered hours.

What sets this apart from a shorter teacher training is simply the length. Thirty days gives you enough repetition that the anatomy and philosophy actually settle in, and enough time practising with the same teacher and group that you get real feedback rather than a cursory correction. Most people come out of it teaching noticeably differently to how they went in.

The lead teacher is Shankar Das, who is based in India and runs the programme in Rishikesh. The wider facilitator team is confirmed before each intake, so if knowing exactly who's teaching matters to you, ask before booking.

The location itself is part of the experience. Rishikesh is a pilgrimage town on the Ganges, and the daily rhythm of the place — temple bells, aarti at the river in the evening, other students and sadhus around — shapes how the month feels. You're not in a resort; you're in a working ashram in a town where yoga is a living practice, not an amenity.
