Europe · 30 days · From USD 345
The Savanna Hermitage is a solo retreat space inspired by meditation, qigong, and yoga, created by Karl Skyhawk, who built the first cabin himself in 2008 and opened the guest cabin in 2021 after living in solitude on the land for years. The retreat is designed to help you strip away the noise of modern life—no internet, no screens, no alcohol, no drugs—and focus entirely on cultivating a lifestyle of higher consciousness, just as monks and hermits have done for millennia. This means a daily rhythm that's simple and profound: sunrise practice, long unhurried afternoons, silence, and plenty of time to sit with yourself and the desert. What makes this retreat different from a typical meditation weekend is its duration and its emphasis on true solitude. With a maximum of two guests, you're never in a group, and most activities are done solo or with the host. Karl facilitates a two-hour morning practice of meditation, yoga, and qigong at the outdoor Meditation Circle, and on hiking days, he leads treks of 4-5 miles into the Chiricahua Mountains, stopping to meditate and practice qigong at what he calls 'power spots'—rock formations, sacred springs, and waterfalls. The rest of the time is yours. The property itself is a study in sustainable living: the cabins are zero-carbon, solar-powered, passively heated, naturally cooled, and collect their own rainwater. There is no internet on site, and digital minimalism is actively encouraged, though there is good cell service if you need it. The location is stunning: 4,600 feet elevation in the savanna of the Chiricahua Mountains, near Chiricahua National Monument with its famous rock pinnacles, and not far from the birding wetlands of Whitewater Draw, Fort Bowie, and the historic towns of Bisbee and Tombstone.
