Portugal · 4 days · From USD 1599
The four days in Portimão are packed. Mornings start early with a Vinyasa or Ashtanga practice, followed by pranayama, philosophy, and anatomy lessons. The afternoons are dedicated to hands-on adjustment practice, Ayurveda massage training, and practicum teaching. Evenings wind down with Yin yoga, Yoga Nidra, or sound healing sessions. It's a full schedule, but the small group size (6-10) means you get plenty of personal attention from the experienced teaching team.
The training is led by Farrah Furtado, the founder of Bend it like Buddha Yoga. Farrah has an impressive pedigree, having studied Ashtanga in Mysore, India, with BNS Iyengar and trained with teachers like Kino MacGregor. She brings over a decade of experience directing 200-hour teacher trainings across Taiwan, Portugal, Bali, and India. Her approach is deeply rooted in traditional yoga philosophy, but she's also modern and inclusive, creating a space where students feel supported and encouraged to find their own voice as teachers.
The curriculum is comprehensive and goes beyond just asana. You'll explore ancient Vedic philosophy, the Yoga Sutras, and how to apply the eight limbs of yoga in daily life. You'll learn about anatomy, alignment, and how to make adjustments. You'll practice teaching, receive feedback, and learn how to structure and sequence classes. The program also includes workshops on trauma-informed yoga, teaching to special populations, and the business of yoga – how to market yourself and attract students.
What really makes this retreat special are the extras. As part of the tuition, you'll receive Usui Reiki training and certification (Level 1, 2, or 3 – your choice), an Ayurveda massage therapy workshop, and training in sound healing and how to hold space for ceremonies. You'll also learn about cacao ceremonies and breathwork journeys. These are valuable skills that can add new dimensions to your classes and offerings as a yoga teacher.
