300-Hour Yoga Therapy Teacher Training in Rishikesh, India

300-Hour Yoga Therapy Teacher Training in Rishikesh, India

Rishikesh · 28 days · From EUR 738

The training runs for 28 days and covers roughly 300 hours of instruction. It is an advanced course, so the entry requirement is a completed 200-hour teacher training certification. If you have not done one, this is not the right course. If you have, this is the step that turns a general teaching qualification into something more specific and more saleable: yoga therapy. The curriculum splits into three broad areas — physical practice, therapeutic study, and contemplative practice.

The physical side is Ashtanga and Vinyasa. You practise daily, and the teaching emphasis is on alignment and adjustment. That means you are not just doing the sequences, you are learning where hands go, how much pressure to apply, how to read a body that is struggling. This is the part most 200-hour courses skim, and it is the part that makes you employable as a teacher.

The therapy side covers human physiology and yogic psychology. You learn how to adapt postures and breathing for individual needs — the kind of work that shows up in private clients, in rehabilitation contexts, and with students who cannot simply follow a group class. Philosophy is taught alongside it, with the aim of applying classical texts to ordinary modern life rather than reciting them.

The contemplative side is pranayama, meditation and yoga nidra. These sessions are usually timetabled later in the day and are considerably quieter than the morning practice. Yoga nidra in particular is taught as a technique to lead others into deep relaxation, not just something you receive. By the end of the month you should be able to run a class, run a private therapy session, and run a guided relaxation — three different skills that most 200-hour graduates do not have.

What distinguishes this from a cheaper 300-hour course elsewhere is the setting and the lineage. Gurukul Yogashala sits in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, in the Himalayan foothills, and operates as an ashram rather than a studio. The teachers — Yogi Arvind Singh and the wider faculty — teach in that environment year-round, and the school runs several other trainings including a 7-day yoga, meditation and sound healing retreat, a 14-day breathwork and Ayurveda retreat, a 22-day 200-hour Ayurveda/Hatha/Ashtanga/Vinyasa TTC, and a 12-day 100-hour meditation and yoga TTC. The 300-hour sits at the top of that ladder.

Accommodation is included and comes in four tiers — private room, twin shared, triple shared for women, and quad shared for women. Prices are listed in US dollars and range from USD 799 to USD 1,499 per person depending on the room.
