4-Day Andean Wellness Trek to Machu Picchu: Mindfulness, Ceremony & Sacred Trails

Peru · 4 days · From EUR 902

Day one starts with a briefing in Cusco, then a private van transfer to the trailhead in the Sacred Valley. You walk for four to five hours through Quechua farming communities and terraced hillsides, with a stop for a gratitude ceremony to Pachamama. Lunch and dinner are cooked at camp by the culinary team, and the evening finishes with a guided meditation before you sleep in a tent under the Andean night sky.

Day two is the long one: a climb to Dead Woman's Pass at 4,217 m, then down into the cloud forest on the far side. The guide sets an easy pace and checks oxygen saturation at camp. Meals are high-carb and hot — quinoa soup, lomo saltado, fresh trout from the valley — and there's coca tea on hand for the altitude. After dinner there's a short reflection session, usually around a fire if the weather allows.

Day three is a shorter walk to Wiñay Wayna, with a stop at the Inca site of Phuyupatamarca. You arrive at the Sun Gate in the late afternoon, which means you see Machu Picchu from above with far fewer people than the morning crowds. From there you descend by bus to Aguas Calientes, check into a hotel, and eat dinner in town.

Day four is a pre-dawn start for the Machu Picchu entrance at opening time. Alfredo guides the circuit himself, covering the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana stone and the agricultural terraces. You're back in Aguas Calientes by early afternoon for the train to Ollantaytambo and a private transfer to your hotel in Cusco or Urubamba.

What sets this apart from a standard Inca Trail trek is the structure around the walking: meditation sessions, ceremonies, and a guide who speaks Quechua and can explain what the sites meant to the people who built them. There's also no group pressure to race — the pace is set by the slowest walker, and the guide carries a radio and oxygen.
