4 Day Wellness and Meditation Retreat in Ubud, Bali

Indonesia · 4 days · From USD 864

Blue Karma Dijiwa Ubud sits three and a half kilometers from Ubud center, high on a hillside above working rice paddies. The resort is built with local materials and a respect for its surroundings—thatched gazebos, a 25-meter freeform pool, and rooms that open onto gardens and jungle. The 'Karma Yoga' pagoda hosts daily yoga and meditation classes, and the spa offers a menu of Balinese, deep-tissue, and hot-stone massages, which are included once per day of your stay.

The retreat itself is structured around three components: a daily yoga session, a daily meditation session, and a daily massage. Yoga is taught by Gusti Ayu Made Sukariani (known as Ayu), who has been practicing since 2009 and completed her 100-hour teacher training in 2014. She focuses on Hatha yoga, teaching in the Balinese classical style, and adapts each class to the experience level of the people in the room. Meditation classes are also held in the Sarang Yoga Shala, and are described as simple visualization techniques to help still the mind. The spa treatments are a real highlight—reviews specifically mention the quality of the massages, with one guest describing her treatment 'above the trees' as incredible.

One afternoon, the hotel arranges a walk through the surrounding rice paddies, with fresh coconut drinks included. Other than that, afternoons are free—you can use the pool, take the shuttle into Ubud to visit the art markets and temples, or book one of the many optional activities the resort offers, such as a Balinese cooking class, a purification ritual at a holy spring temple, or a sunrise trek up Mount Batur. There's also a free 'Boreh' class (making Balinese herbal warming balm) three days a week, and a 'Jamu' class (traditional turmeric drink) on the other days, both requiring advance reservation.

The food at Blue Restaurant is a big part of the appeal. Breakfast is included, and the à la carte menu spans European, Asian, and Indonesian dishes, with healthy raw options and a strong vegetarian selection. There are homemade yogurts, fresh bread, and dishes prepared in an open kitchen overlooking the valley. Reviews consistently mention the quality of the food—it's a proper restaurant, not just a hotel buffet, and the afternoon tea and cake between 15:00 and 17:00 is a nice touch.
