4 Day Yoga and Nature Wellness Retreat with Cave Trek in Phong Nha, Vietnam

Vietnam · 4 days · From USD 246

This is a retreat built around the rhythm of the day. Each morning, before breakfast, you make your way to the yoga shala perched over the lake and pract up for about 90 minutes. Prashant leads vinyasa and Ashtanga-style classes, with a strong focus on alignment; if you're newer to it, he'll give you options. Estelle, who trained in Mysore, teaches the traditional Ashtanga method. The view while you practise is genuinely hard to beat - still water, thick jungle, and limestone karsts. There's a second, gentler session in the late afternoon, so by the end of the third day most people feel noticeably better in their bodies, as one guest put it.

Most days include something beyond yoga. The big one is the guided trek to a cave - Phong Nha is famous for having some of the largest caves in the world, so imagine scrambling over rocks, wading through shallow streams, and standing inside a cavern so huge it feels like a cathedral. There's also a day for taking a borrowed bicycle out to the river cave or the Bong Lai valley, where local farmers work the rice paddies, and you can stop for coffee at a farmstay. The team can point you toward kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, or fishing if you want to pack more in.

What keeps people coming back is the combination of the setting and the food. The kitchen turns out proper Vietnamese dishes using vegetables from the on-site garden and local farms - expect pho, fragrant curries, fresh spring rolls, and always at least one good vegetarian option. You can even book a cooking class to learn how to make a few of these dishes yourself. In the free time between sessions, people swim in the large pool, nap in a hammock by the lake, or curl up with a book from the little library. There's no spa and no fancy amenities - that's not the point here. The point is the simplicity and the scenery.

The retreat is small, with a maximum of twelve guests. That means the yoga stays personal, and you'll probably end up sharing meals and conversation with the same few people for the whole time you're there. Solo travellers fit in easily; there's a warm, community feel without any forced group activities. Prashant and Estelle both teach here, and they're around for questions or chats beyond the classes, which makes a difference. It's not a luxury resort experience, but if you want a few days of proper yoga in a stunning location - with a proper adventure thrown in - this delivers on all fronts.
