Home › Retreats › 5-Day Yin Yang Massage & Reflexology Certification in Akumal, Mexico
Mexico · 5 days · From EUR 2024
The training covers three connected disciplines: Yin Yang massage, acupressure and reflexology. Yin Yang massage is the core — a style that blends slow, holding pressure (Yin) with more active, moving strokes (Yang), depending on what the body in front of you needs. Acupressure is taught as a way of working specific points to release blocked energy and ease muscular tension, and reflexology focuses on the feet, where the whole body is mapped in miniature. You'll learn sequences for the back, shoulders, neck, face, hands and feet, and how to adapt them when someone is holding tension in a particular area.
A typical day starts around 9am with a demonstration, then you break into pairs to practise what you've just seen. The instructor circulates, corrects hand placement, and shows you how to adjust pressure without wearing yourself out. Lunch is taken together on-site, and afternoons often include a second practical block, sometimes focused on reflexology or on how to structure a full 60- or 90-minute session for a client. There's usually time before dinner for a swim or a walk, and a few evenings are left free.
The course is deliberately small and hands-on. You're not sitting through lectures all day — most of the five days is spent working on a partner, receiving work back, and getting individual feedback. By the end you should be able to deliver a full Yin Yang massage and a reflexology treatment without following a script, and you'll have a certificate to show for it.
The bilingual format (English and Spanish) means you can ask questions in whichever language you're comfortable in, and the group tends to be a mix of massage therapists adding a modality, yoga teachers expanding their offering, and people who simply want to learn to work on friends and family. The lead instructor is confirmed before the start date, and Ekumal's own team of therapists runs the training — the same people who work in the resort's spa.
Ekumal Sanctuary Eco Resorts sits on the Riviera Maya, a short drive from Akumal and its beaches. The resort is built into the jungle, with cenotes and wildlife nearby, and the pace is deliberately slow. It's the kind of place where you eat breakfast outside, hear birds instead of traffic, and can rinse off in the sea after a day of bodywork. The location is part of why the training works — you're not in a city, so the nervous system settles and it's easier to feel subtle changes in tissue and energy.
