India · 7 days · From USD 424
The 50-hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training at Ayush Yogadarshanam is a comprehensive program that goes beyond the physical postures. Each day is structured to build your understanding of yoga as a holistic system. You'll start with kriyas (cleansing practices) and move into asana analysis, where the focus is on alignment, adjustments, and common mistakes. The Anatomy & Physiology sessions are taught from both medical and yogic viewpoints, covering the body systems and how they relate to practice.
Yin Yoga, known for its slow-paced, floor-based poses held for several minutes, targets the deep connective tissues and promotes flexibility and relaxation. Here, you learn to teach it with precision, incorporating the principles of Patanjali's Ashtanga Yoga. The curriculum also includes philosophy classes on the Yoga Sutras, meditation techniques from different schools, and teaching methodology that covers lesson planning, classroom etiquette, and constructive feedback methods.
What sets this training apart is the location and the teacher. Yogacharya Santhosh Kumar brings 25+ years of experience and a lineage that includes B.K.S. Iyengar. His teaching style is direct, thorough, and rooted in classical tradition, yet adapted for modern times. The school is in Gokulam, a quiet residential area of Mysore, known for its yoga community and proximity to forests and holy sites where you can practice. This isn't a flashy retreat center; it's a real yoga school, giving you an authentic feel for training in India.
Beyond the technical, there's a strong emphasis on 'Seva' (service) and community. You'll have opportunities to assist in running the school, participate in cultural evenings with programs like chanting and bhajans, and take part in optional excursions to practice at holy sites. Meals are simple, healthy vegetarian food served three times a day, and you'll be staying in comfortable private rooms or dorm-style accommodations within walking distance of the school.
