Kerala · 7 days · From USD 378
Ennakkathara Arya Vaidyasala has been practicing Ayurveda since 1977, and it remains a family-run operation where the old ways are still followed. Dr. Nikila Sudheer, who has 16 years of experience, leads the medical side, blending traditional knowledge with modern biomedical assessments. Her team provides daily treatments that are personalized after an initial consultation, so the massages, steam baths, and other therapies you receive are matched to your specific constitution, or dosha, as diagnosed on arrival.
Yoga here is treated as a companion to the Ayurvedic treatments rather than a standalone fitness class. Each day includes morning and evening sessions led by Jayesh Dhananjayan, a certified Hatha and Ashtanga instructor with a master's degree in yoga. The focus is on asanas, pranayama, and meditation, with time also given to understanding the philosophy behind the practice. It is a gentle, wellness-focused approach rather than an intense physical workout.
The daily routine extends beyond the treatment rooms. There are classes that explain Ayurvedic principles in plain language, and a guided visit to the nearby Chottanikkara Devi Temple, where you can witness rituals that have been part of local life for centuries. The group also tours the on-site Ayurvedic medicine manufacturing unit to see how the oils and remedies are prepared. A boat trip through the Kerala backwaters is available at an extra cost, but it is worth booking as it offers a different pace of sightseeing away from the town.
