Home › Retreats › 7-Day Kitesurf Camp in Djerbahood: Lagoon Lessons, Yoga and Full Board
Tunisia · 7 days · From EUR 845
Djerba is a flat, windy island off the south-east coast of Tunisia, and the lagoon this camp sits on is big, shallow and forgiving — the kind of water where you can wipe out repeatedly without it being a problem. The camp is based in Djerbahood, the village area known for its painted street-art walls, and the kite club launches straight onto the lagoon.
Kitesurfing instruction follows a structured progression. Your first sessions cover wind theory, kite setup, safety systems and flying the kite on the beach. You then move into the water for body dragging and board starts, working toward your first rides and, if you've got the hang of it by day four or five, riding upwind. Students are capped at two per instructor, so the pace is set by you rather than by whoever's slowest in a bigger group. Equipment — kite, board, harness, wetsuit — is provided, and equipment insurance is included in the package.
The package includes six lessons totalling 12 hours across the week, which leaves room for rest days, bad-wind days and the other activities. Yoga runs at the camp and sometimes in less usual spots by the sea. Stand-up paddleboards and kayaks are available on the lagoon, and there are boat trips, a visit to the souk, horse riding on the beach and desert excursions on offer. Massages can also be arranged. One guest review from a previous stay described the guest house as "very cute", the meals as "delicious", the kite instructors as "fantastic", and singled out the horse riding on the beach, the massages and the souk visit as highlights.
Accommodation spans a range of options: from shared hostel-style rooms to villas with private pools. All rooms have a microwave, fridge and hob if you want to cook for yourself, though full board is included so most people don't. The camp has an outdoor swimming pool, a casino for evening entertainment, and a water park nearby for families.
The kite club itself runs group and private lessons and hires equipment. Lessons are open from age 12. The club's stated method is to give you the best results in the shortest time, adapting to your level and prior experience rather than pushing everyone through the same syllabus. Djerba-Zarzis International Airport has direct flights from major European cities, and airport transfers plus transfers to and from the club are included in the price.
