India · 7 days · From USD 183
The retreat centre is Anahata Healing Centre, set on a sacred piece of land where every tree, Kiran says, was planted with intention. There's a serene lake, vibrant birds, gentle cows, and organic fruit trees. The phrase everyone uses is 'harmonious'. This is the kind of place where you can sit under a tree for an hour and watch the cows graze, feeling yourself slow down against your will.
The day starts with a one-hour yoga class at 7am, suitable for all levels, led by Kiran or another instructor. After breakfast, you take part in Karma Yoga – the practice of selfless service. This is hands-on work around the centre: helping in the vegetable patch, feeding the cows, or assisting in the care of the children who attend the centre's day programs. Many guests say this contribution is one of the most meaningful parts of the week. In the afternoon there's a period of mindfulness, which the schedule describes as 'meditation, silence, reading, artistic activities, walking'. You're free to fill this however you need.
There's also an afternoon class in breathing and relaxation, as well as daily chanting. While the program provides structure, there is plenty of free time too. You can walk into the village, take a dip in the lake (when the season allows), or simply find a quiet corner and read. The hosts are happy to share their lives with guests – conversations often happen around meals, and there are opportunities to interact with local families.
Just a two-hour drive from Mysore, a major yoga centre in India, this retreat offers a traditional ashram-style experience. It's a place that has welcomed guests from all over the world, and while the facilities are simple, the atmosphere is warm and authentic. The eco-centre also offers occasional cooking classes where you might learn to make a local dish or prepare something from the garden. A stay here is not about being pampered; it's about being hosted by a family who truly want you to connect with nature, their community, and your own inner rhythm.
