7-Day Siwa Oasis Yoga & Cooking Retreat in Egypt's Desert

7-Day Siwa Oasis Yoga & Cooking Retreat in Egypt's Desert

Egypt · 7 days · From USD 2458

Mornings start with a grounding Hatha yoga session and pranayama breathing on the property's terrace, looking out over palm groves and desert. Nights end with a slower practice—yoga nidra or kundalini—usually under open sky. The practices are led by Marina Maher, a RYT-200 certified instructor who moved to Siwa eight years ago and knows the oasis's healing spots like her own backyard.

The food side of the retreat is just as structured. You'll take two hands-on cooking classes with local Siwan cooks, learning how to work with farm-to-table ingredients that show up in every meal here: dates, olives, fresh herbs, and vegetables grown in the oasis. Meals are mostly vegetarian and eaten together, either in the dining room or outside.

Between sessions, the itinerary is built around the oasis's natural assets. You'll float in the salt lakes—water so dense you can't sink—visit Cleopatra's Pool, a spring where locals have swum for centuries, and take a sunset 4x4 trip into the dunes for a Bedouin dinner. A visit to the Shali Fortress and Jabal al-Mawta adds some history, and a yoga nidra session inside a natural salt cave is the week's most unusual experience.

What makes this different from a standard resort yoga week is the setting. Siwa is genuinely remote—about a nine-hour drive from Cairo—and still feels like its own world, with a distinct Berber culture and a pace that hasn't caught up with the internet. You stay in rooms built the traditional way, eat food grown minutes away, and swim in springs that have been used for thousands of years. It's a proper escape, not a themed version of one.
