7 Day Writers in Residence Retreat in the Aegean Sea, Greece

Greece · 7 days · From USD 1270

Villa Komito transforms into an exclusive Writers in Residence Retreat each year, drawing creative minds from around the world to this extraordinary location that many believe could be Homer's legendary Elysian Fields. The retreat is designed for writers at all stages—whether you're new to writing, developing a long-considered project, or well into your process seeking guidance and fresh perspectives to move your work forward.

The program brings together an exceptional team of literary professionals who serve as your guides and mentors throughout the week. Distinguished novelist and biographer Laura Beatty, whose works include the Authors' Club First Novel Award-winning 'Pollard,' leads engaging workshops and exercises. Travel writer and biographer Sara Wheeler provides experienced coaching, while journalist and Runciman Award winner Bruce Clark shares insights from his acclaimed works including 'Athens: City of Wisdom.' The literary agency world is represented by Clare Conville, founder of Conville and Walsh (now part of Curtis Brown), who offers invaluable advice on publication prospects—consistently one of the retreat's most appreciated features.

Each day begins with a group meeting following one of Komito's celebrated breakfasts, followed by optional workshops covering essential topics including structure, style, and getting started. Short writing tasks are suggested, and guests can participate as much or as little as they wish. The emphasis is on creating an easy, supportive environment where writers learn from each other as much as from the formal sessions. Afternoons offer freedom to explore the island, work on personal projects, or seek one-on-one guidance from the resident experts.

The retreat attracts a wonderfully eclectic mix of participants—guests of all ages from 20 upwards, representing Europe, the USA, South America, and Asia. This diversity enriches the experience enormously, creating stimulating discussions and unexpected connections. Partners and friends are welcome to join, making this an ideal choice for those who want to combine creative development with a memorable holiday experience. The villa's gracious hospitality, exceptional cuisine prepared by skilled chef Nella, and the natural beauty of Syros create an atmosphere that past guests describe as 'like staying at a family home rather than an impersonal hotel.'
