7-Night Yoga & Wellness Retreat in the South of France: Vence, Tourtour & the Verdon Gorge

The retreat starts in Vence, a hill town about 25 minutes inland from Nice, where you spend the first three nights. Mornings begin with yoga in the resort gardens, looking out over the valleys. From here you head into Nice and Cannes — the Promenade des Anglais, the old town of Nice, the Croisette in Cannes — with an English-speaking guide and a vehicle doing the driving.

Midweek you transfer to Tourtour, a village perched at around 650 metres in the Var, known locally as the village in the sky. The remaining four nights are here, in a four-star resort. Tourtour's streets date back to the 12th century and are walkable in an afternoon — the square, the old washhouse, the views down towards the Argens valley. Yoga continues daily at this second base.

The standout day trip is the Verdon Gorge, one of Europe's largest canyons. You'll either paddleboard on the Verdon or take a boat through the gorge, depending on conditions. The same day often includes Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, a village built into the cliff face that regularly features on lists of the most beautiful villages in France.

There's a wine tasting somewhere in the week, and a one-hour massage is included. Meals are two per day — typically breakfast and dinner — so lunches are usually taken out during excursions, which gives you a chance to eat in the towns you're visiting. The food leans Mediterranean: Provençal vegetables, olive oil, seafood near the coast, lamb and game inland.

What separates this from a single-location yoga retreat is the two-base structure. You're not unpacking once and staying put; you're moving from the Côte d'Azur hinterland to the Haute-Provence interior, which means two quite different landscapes in one week. Transfers throughout, entrance fees, road tolls and VAT are all handled.
