9-Day Yoga & Plant Medicine Retreat in Puerto Morelos, Mexico

One Breath of Yoga Ashram runs this retreat in Puerto Morelos, a laid-back beach town on the Quintana Roo coast about 30 minutes south of Cancún airport. The town is known for its reef, its fishing pier and a pace that's noticeably slower than the resort strips nearby — a useful thing when the week's work is this intense.

Each morning starts with yoga, typically a hatha or vinyasa-style session suited to mixed abilities. The practice is there to open up the body and settle the mind before ceremony days. Afternoons are largely free — swim, walk into town, sleep, journal — with some group sharing circles scheduled around the ceremonies.

The plant medicine work is the core of the week. Guests sit in Ayahuasca ceremonies, take part in Kambo sessions, and may also join a Bufo Alvarius ceremony. Each is facilitated by experienced guides who handle preparation, dosing and integration, and who stay present throughout. Ceremonies usually run in the evening or overnight, with the following morning kept light.

Food is vegan for the entire retreat, cooked on site. Menus are simple and cleansing — soups, grains, vegetables, fruit — and dietary needs are worked out with you before you arrive. No alcohol or recreational substances during the stay; this is stated as part of the preparation.
