Adult Surf Camp on Razo Beach, Galicia

Adult Surf Camp on Razo Beach, Galicia

Spain · 6 days · From EUR 439

A typical day starts with breakfast at the hostel, then a two-hour surf lesson in the morning. Instructors work in three levels, so complete beginners learn to paddle out and catch white water while more experienced surfers work on turns and line on the wave. Boards and wetsuits are yours for the whole day, not just the lesson slot.

Lunch follows, then the afternoon is for supervised free surfing, with the team picking the best wave and tide window at Razo. When the swell or wind doesn't cooperate, the programme switches to surfskating on the wooden deck, the mini ramp, slacklining, beach games or a technique workshop. Video correction sessions run through the week and show you where your position and style need work.

What separates this camp from a lot of European surf weeks is the size and quality of the beach. Razo is one of the longest and highest-quality stretches on the Atlantic coast of Europe, and the hostel is 100 metres from it. The village itself has 400 residents; Carballo, 9 km away, has over 31,000 people, a health centre and full services, and A Coruña is about 20 minutes' drive.

Instructors are certified by the Galician Surf Federation or the Spanish Surf Federation and are working surfers as well as teachers. The camp also runs wave-formation and meteorology sessions on the back terrace, so you leave knowing how to read a forecast and choose equipment for yourself.

The food is cooked in the camp's own kitchen. In June the price covers breakfast, lunch and dinner; in August and September breakfast is included and full board can be added. Menus are adapted for food intolerances, and a dietician has designed the menu, which leans on fish, meat, vegetables and pasta with fruit always available.

Groups are arranged by age and existing groups are kept together. All rooms are shared, with options for six, eight or ten people, each with its own shower and toilet area.
