India · 30 days · From USD 1121
Om Yoga Shala has been running yoga trainings for 15 years across Jaipur, Rishikesh, and Goa, and this 300-hour advanced course is their most comprehensive offering. It's built around the Ashtanga Vinyasa method as taught by Sri Krishnamacharya and Pattabhi Jois, with daily practice of the primary series moving into the intermediate series as your body allows. The teaching emphasizes self-awareness over force — poses are adjusted to each individual, and you're encouraged to question your conditioning rather than blindly follow a lineage.
Your mornings begin at 6:00 with wake-up, followed by prayer, pranayama, and a silent Antar Mauna session at 7:00. The main asana practice runs for about two hours, after which you'll sit down to breakfast. The rest of the day is split between philosophy lectures covering the Yoga Sutras, Vedanta, and the Bhagavad Gita; anatomy workshops that go from the skeletal system down to the individual muscles used in yoga; and teaching practice where you'll lead your peers and receive feedback.
A key feature is the balance between practice and study. You'll learn Sanskrit counting for the series, hands-on adjustments, and how to sequence a safe, systematic vinyasa class. There are also sessions on the business of teaching yoga and the ethics of the profession. The training includes more than Ashtanga — you'll cover preparatory micro-exercises, Hatha sequences, and pranayama techniques you can pass on to beginners.
Because the shala also hosts shorter retreats, you'll share the space with retreat guests who join for a week or two. This mix means you get real-world teaching experience as the course progresses, and there's a friendly, communal feeling on the campus — reviewers in their late sixties have felt completely at home here. The 30-day length means you can truly settle into the practice and let the changes happen gradually, rather than in a rushed two-week burst.
