All-Inclusive Yoga and Meditation Week in Marrakech with Atlas Mountains Excursion

All-Inclusive Yoga and Meditation Week in Marrakech with Atlas Mountains Excursion

Marrakech · 8 days

Each day begins with a morning session of yoga, pranayama and meditation. Rachel teaches a different style each time: Hatha, Yin, Yin/Yang and Restorative early in the week, building towards a more Vinyasa-inspired class, with at least one alignment-focused class and one Kundalini class. Mats and all props are provided. After savasana, breakfast is served in the sun. The afternoon is yours — swim in the outdoor pool, book a massage at the spa, or read on the terrace. Evening classes run at sunset and are slower and more restorative, balancing the body after the day. Dinner follows.

Two full days are spent off-site. The Atlas Mountains trip includes lunch on a rooftop terrace with views of Toubkal. The Marrakech day covers Djemaa el-Fna, the souks, the Majorelle garden and museums, with lunch at one of the top five restaurants in the city. A silence day is built into the programme; many guests are hesitant beforehand and then call it their favourite part of the week. One workshop on Freedom & Change is included, as are a full-length massage and a traditional hammam with scrubbing.

What sets this apart from other Morocco yoga weeks is that the extras are not extras. Massages, the hammam, excursions, entrance fees, transfers and all meals are in the price. Rachel brings her own chefs to train the local kitchen staff, and the food is cooked from the on-site organic garden and local markets. She also lived in Morocco for four years and has run over 70 of her own retreats, so the Marrakech day goes to places most tours skip.

Quaryati itself is a traditional Moroccan guest house with air-conditioned rooms and suites, each with ensuite bathrooms and Moroccan-style furniture; some have private balconies with High Atlas views. The grounds include a pool, patios and private terraces, and the owner, Françoise, is known for her attention to detail. It sits half an hour from the medina, close enough for day trips and far enough to be quiet at night.

Rachel Bonkink is the host and teacher. She worked as a COO and consultant before founding Revealing Vajra, and has practised yoga for around 15 years, starting with Ashtanga and later studying with Iyengar-trained teachers. She currently takes guidance from teachers including Paul Grilley, Alan Wallace and Jack Kornfield, and attends silent retreats and teacher trainings every year. She teaches all levels and adjusts poses individually.
