Day-to-day, the rhythm is simple: yoga before breakfast, a hike or excursion in the middle of the day, Yin yoga and poetry before dinner. There are five morning Hatha Vinyasa sessions and four evening Yin sessions across the five nights, two guided hikes in the mountains around Champoluc, and one half-day trip to Aosta, the regional capital founded in 24 BC and still full of Roman ruins. The rest of the time is yours — spa, pool, sauna, or walking into the village.
What separates this from a generic yoga week is Nina Butler herself. She's a trained mountain guide with extensive experience in the Alps, and Val d'Aosta is a region she knows particularly well. That means the hikes aren't just hotel-arranged walks; you're going out with someone who can read the terrain and pick routes that suit the group on the day. The yoga is also a genuine daily practice rather than a single class bolted onto a walking holiday — five morning sessions and four evening sessions is a lot of mat time for a five-night trip.
The venue, Aethos Monterosa, opened its doors to InRetreat groups in 2022 and has been the operator's Alpine base since. It's a design hotel — clean lines outside, Scandi-influenced interiors inside, wooden details, natural fabrics, and big windows. Rooms come with king beds, contemporary bathrooms with walk-in showers, and either a private balcony or loggia access. Some layouts also have a bathtub. The hotel runs its own spa, pool and sauna, which you have access to throughout.
September in the Aosta Valley is quiet. The summer hiking crowds have thinned and the ski season hasn't started, so trails around Champoluc are relatively empty. The region's food draws on three culinary traditions at once — Piemonte-style pastas and risottos, French-influenced stews and fondues, and Swiss-style cheeses and charcuterie — and the hotel leans into that with a menu built on local producers. Expect polenta, fontina, mountain herbs, game in season, and a decent wine list from Aosta Valley growers.
Group size is deliberately small — one guest review mentions a group of ten on a previous InRetreat trip — which means the yoga sessions stay personal and the hikes move at a pace that works for everyone. The retreat is open to solo travellers, couples and friends; single and twin occupancy rates are both published. Nina travels with the group throughout, from the Milan airport transfer on arrival day to the return transfer on departure day, so there's no point where you're left to figure out logistics yourself.
