Spend a week ski touring in the Arctic from a lodge on Uløya, an island at the northern tip of the Lyngen Alps in Norway. Lyngen Outdoor Center is in Uløybukt, about 100 metres from the ferry port. Every day you climb on skins and ski down peaks that drop straight to the sea.

An IVBV/IFMGA mountain guide chooses each day's tour around the weather, snow and avalanche conditions and what the group can do. Tours straight from the lodge include Blåtinden (1142 m), Sæteraksla (966 m) and Kjelvagtinden (1104 m). There is also the Grand Traverse of Uløya, about 17-20 km with roughly 2200 m of ascent. Other tours go to Store Kågtinden, Sorbmegeisa and Trolltinden, and boats reach Kågen, Arnøya and other remote areas.

Open groups suit individuals and couples, usually intermediate and advanced ski tourers, and include guiding, accommodation and catering. A private group of at least three has its own lodge and guide, with lower per-person rates for groups of five and six. You can also book the week without guiding.

You stay in fully equipped lodges with a fireplace, a private sauna and a heated drying room for your kit, 50 m from the water. Meals are full board, home-cooked from fresh local ingredients. The season runs from late February to early May.
