Home › Retreats › Arctic Wellness Escape: Yoga, Finnish Sauna Rituals & Sound Baths in Lapland
Rovaniemi · 3 days
Skýra Retreat is a hotel and spa in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland, near the Arctic Circle, and the wellness offering is genuinely included in the stay rather than charged extra. Every guest gets the Morning Flow Yoga (45 minutes, small group), the Folklore Sauna (25 minutes, small group) and the Evening Sound Bath (60 minutes, small group). Because they're complimentary and part of the standard stay rather than a fixed week-long programme, you pick which ones to attend each day.
The Folklore Sauna is the one people remember. It's run by a dedicated saunottaja who begins with a quiet ceremony and a spoken sauna spell, then explains the historical rituals behind Finnish sauna tradition while working the steam. The Morning Flow class blends somatic movement, gentle yoga and breathwork, and closes with a moment to set an intention for the day. The Evening Sound Bath uses singing bowls, gongs and chimes — the hotel recommends going straight to sleep afterwards rather than out for the evening.
If you want more than the included group sessions, private wellness can be arranged through the concierge. Options include a 60-minute mat Pilates class focused on core awareness and alignment (beginner to advanced), a 60-minute private yoga session in whichever style you want — Hatha, Yin, Vinyasa or Somatic — a 60-minute guided meditation that moves between seated, standing and resting positions, a 60-minute couple's yoga session built on partnered poses and breathwork, and a 45-minute family yoga class for children aged 3–10 and their adults. There's also the Private Violin Relaxation: a 50-minute session combining breathwork, imagery and live violin, with the musician moving quietly around the space, playing near and far. Rates and timings for all private sessions are available to guests through the concierge team.
Outside the studio, the concierge arranges activities with local guides depending on season and weather. In winter that means husky safaris, reindeer sleigh rides, Northern Lights tours, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, private ski trips and ice floating. In the snowless season it's hiking, forest walks, kayaking, fatbiking and e-fatbike tours, foraging, lake activities, reindeer farm visits and midnight sun experiences. Activities are exclusive to guests staying at the retreat — if you're not staying, you can still book spa sessions and a table for food from 1 November onwards.
The setting is forest and lake, which shapes what the wellness actually feels like: you're doing breathwork and sound work in a quiet northern landscape rather than a city studio. It suits people who want a base in Lapland with real wellness built in, and who are happy to choose their own pace rather than follow a set timetable from 6am to 9pm.
