Asia's First Official HYROX Training Destination: Fitness Camp on Koh Samui

Koh Samui · 7 days

A HYROX race is structured the same everywhere in the world: eight rounds of a 1km run followed by one functional workout station, for 8km total and eight stations. Maraleina runs training for that format at its Koh Samui facility. Sessions cover the running side and the station work separately, then combine them, so you get used to moving between the two under fatigue. The resort says its HYROX training classes started on the gym schedule in March 2025.

What separates this from a normal gym with a race prep class is the official designation. Maraleina is the first official HYROX Training Destination in Asia, which means it runs to HYROX's global standard rather than someone's interpretation of the race. The resort has a fully equipped gym, a high-performance training centre and extensive fitness spaces, and it runs mini HYROX events for members who want to test their splits in a competitive setting before signing up for an actual race.

There are two named trainers on the team. Chantelle McCreight-Devalia is a Canadian physiotherapist with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy (2013), a CSEP-CPT personal training certification and APPI Pilates Mat certification, plus TRX and Kettlebell certifications. She's worked in fitness and rehab since 2010 and specialises in running programmes, functional strength, cycle classes and return-to-function rehab. Moo Phumsawat is a Thai trainer with 18 years of meditation experience and five years spent as a monk, alongside a 200-hour Yoga Alliance teacher training, NSCA Strength & Conditioning certification, ACSM rehab specialist certification, Wat Pho Thai massage training and a Longevity Academy certification. Between them you get the physio and strength side and the recovery and mobility side.

Koh Samui itself is the other half of it. The island has beaches, warm water year-round and enough going on that a rest day doesn't mean sitting in your room. Most guests fly into Samui International Airport, which is a short drive from the resort area, and the resort is set up for people who want to train hard and then actually rest.

The age limit for HYROX competition is 16, so while the resort trains adults, this is a place where older athletes fit in fine. HYROX has Adaptive categories as well, and the training adapts to whatever level you're starting at, so you don't need to already be race-ready to join a class.
