Ayahuasca & Rainforest Reset: Five Days on the Piatúa River, Ecuadorian Amazon

The setting does a lot of the work here. The reserve sits on the Piatúa, one of the cleaner rivers in the region, surrounded by standing rainforest rather than cleared land. You're near Santa Clara in Pastaza province, a few hours from Quito. Transport out from Quito is arranged separately (30 per vehicle) and the drive itself drops you steadily into the jungle.

The week is built around two ceremonies, not one, which gives you a second night with whatever you learned the first time. Each ceremony is preceded by a flower bath to settle you beforehand, and each is paired with a personal limpia from the elder — a hands-on cleansing with plants and traditional technique rather than a group ritual you watch from the back.

What sets this apart from a lot of ayahuasca programmes is the morning after. Integration sessions run with English translation, so the conversation with the yachak or maestro is a real exchange and not a language guess. That translation thread runs through the cultural side too — the jungle walks are narrated, the plant explanations are translated, and the handicraft and music sessions are led by Kichwa people rather than staged for visitors.

The elders rotate depending on the dates: most retreats are led by a Kichwa yachak or Shipibo maestro, and some departures are specifically run with Maestro Sina on request. Throughout every ceremony there's a sober support team whose job is simply to be present and keep people safe.

The rest of the time is quiet. You can nap, read the guidebook, sit by the river, or go in for a swim. Meals are cooked on site and can be carnivore, vegetarian or vegan. It's a small-group, low-stimulus few days — the point is the ceremonies and the space around them, not a packed activity schedule.
