Home › Retreats › Ayurvedic Detox & Deep Renewal Retreat in the Mayan Jungle, Akumal
Mexico · 4 days · From EUR 2227
The retreat runs for four days and follows a Panchakarma-style rhythm. Mornings start with Kriya Yoga — cleansing breathing and movement practices rather than a general hatha class — followed by herbal preparations and the day's main detox treatment. Afternoons are for rest, gentle walks on the property, and digestive teas. Evenings are early and light.
Ayurvedic detox is not a juice fast in a nice hotel. It's a specific sequence: oleation (internal and external oil), fomentation, and then elimination therapies aimed at clearing what Ayurveda calls ama — undigested residue. In practice that means some days are physically demanding and some are mostly lying down. The facilitators adjust for each guest, which is one reason the group stays small.
Kriya Yoga is woven in to support the physical work. These are classical cleansing kriyas — breathwork, nasal and digestive techniques — taught in a way that beginners can follow. If you've only done studio yoga, expect something different: less flow, more attention to what's moving through you.
The property is Ekumal Sanctuary Eco Resorts, an eco-retreat site in San Martín, about twenty minutes inland from Akumal's beaches. Cabins are simple and set among trees, with the kind of quiet that makes it easy to keep the schedule. Meals are cooked on site and adjusted for the group's dietary needs — tell the team upfront if you're vegan, gluten-free, or working with a specific condition.
Compared with a generic wellness weekend, this one is more clinical. You'll likely be asked about your health history before arrival, you may be given herbs to take at specific times, and you'll be encouraged to keep your phone down. It suits people who've done some inner work already and want a structured physical reset. It doesn't suit anyone looking for a spa holiday with cocktails.
