Ayurvedic Panchakarma Detox & Yoga Retreat in Rishikesh, India

Rishikesh · 8 days · From USD 473

The retreat takes place at a wellness center in Tapovan, Rishikesh, an area known as the yoga capital of the world. The center has indoor and outdoor yoga spaces, a yoga shala, meditation huts, and an in-house spa where the Panchakarma treatments are carried out. The atmosphere is modest and functional rather than luxurious, but clean and well-maintained, with attention to the things that matter for a retreat: comfortable rooms, good food, and a quiet environment.

Panchakarma is the core of the experience. The word means 'five actions' in Sanskrit, referring to five traditional cleansing therapies: Vamana (therapeutic emesis), Virechana (purgation), Basti (medicated enema), Nasya (nasal administration of medicated oils), and Raktamokshana (blood purification). Not every guest will undergo all five—the doctor decides based on your individual constitution and needs. Each treatment is administered with care, and you're given time to rest afterward. The goal is to eliminate accumulated toxins (ama) and restore balance to the doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

Yoga and pranayama are woven into the daily schedule, with classes held both at the center and, on some mornings, by the Ganges. Teachers include Ambika Arya, who holds an M.A. in Yoga and teaches with a focus on integrating yoga into daily life, and Jitendra, who has an M.A. in Yogic Science from Uttarakhand Sanskrit University and completed a 200-hour teacher training in Rishikesh. Yogi Rishi, a mind therapist and clinical hypnotherapist, leads sessions working on the subconscious through meditation and breathwork. The teaching style is grounded and practical, not esoteric—clear instruction with a focus on what you can apply after you leave.

Meals are an essential part of the Panchakarma process. All food is vegetarian, freshly prepared from seasonal ingredients, and tailored to your dosha. Expect simple dishes like khichari (a mild lentil and rice dish), soups, steamed vegetables, herbal teas, and detox juices. The diet is designed to be light and easy to digest, supporting the cleansing rather than working against it. A cooking class on Day 3 teaches you how to prepare some of these dishes at home.

The retreat is suitable for a range of fitness levels and ages. The yoga is accessible to beginners, and the treatments require no physical exertion. If you're looking for an active holiday with intense workouts or adventure, this isn't it. But if you're tired, run down, or simply want to reset your digestion, sleep, and energy levels with professional guidance, this program offers a thorough and supported approach.
