Home › Retreats › Bali Beachfront Yoga & Fitness Week: Sunrise Vinyasa, Ocean Swims and Jungle Walks
Indonesia · 8 days · From EUR 1290
The lead teacher here is Sara Lindqvist, who has taught yoga in Bali for nine years and runs the villa with her husband, a Balinese guide named Gede. Sara trained in Mysore with Sharath Jois for a season and then moved to vinyasa; she also holds a Level 3 personal-training certificate, which is why the retreat includes actual strength sessions alongside the yoga rather than just more stretching. Her cueing is unusually calm and specific — she talks you through what your ribs and pelvis are doing rather than calling out poses by name and hoping.
A typical day starts at 6:45 with coffee, tea and fruit outside by the pool. The 7:00 class runs 90 minutes: a short warm-up, then a structured vinyasa sequence that builds over the week, finishing with five minutes of seated breathwork. Breakfast is served at 8:45, and on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays the group moves to the small covered gym space on the property at 10:00 for 45 minutes of dumbbell work, kettlebell swings and mobility drills. Lunch is at 13:00. At 18:00 there is a second, slower class — yin, restorative or guided meditation, depending on the day — and dinner follows at 19:30.
What separates this from the dozens of other yoga weeks on this stretch of coast is that Sara and Gede actually live on site. Someone is around all day to sort out a scooter rental, point you to the right warung, or tell you which break is cleanest that morning. On the Thursday, Gede takes whoever wants to go on a four-hour walk up through the rice terraces above Pererenan to a waterfall most tourists never find, and finishes with a swim. On the Saturday, there's a beginner-friendly surf lesson at Batu Bolong with a local school; board and instructor included.
The villa itself is a walled compound with four bedrooms, an open-air living pavilion, a 12-metre lap pool and a small yoga shala with a wooden ceiling fan. Rooms have air conditioning, mosquito nets and outdoor bathrooms with hot showers. Canggu's main strip is a five-minute walk away if you want a café or a beer; the villa is set back far enough that you mostly hear frogs at night.
Who it suits: people who want to move daily and eat well without being shouted at. Mornings are active but the strength sessions are scaled to what you can actually lift, and Sara will give you a lighter or heavier option without ceremony. If you have never done yoga at all, you'll be fine — you just spend the first two days learning the sun salutations slowly, which is how everyone starts. The free afternoons mean you can do nothing at all and feel completely justified about it.
