Balinese Cultural Immersion & Yoga Wellness Week

Balinese Cultural Immersion & Yoga Wellness Week

Indonesia · 7 days · From USD 1074

The retreat is based at Bali Palms, a small property in Laleng village, Tabanan Regency, on Bali's west coast. Tabanan is known as the 'rice bowl' of the island — terraced paddies, rivers, jungle, and very few tourists. The property itself is on over five acres, with a pool, a restaurant overlooking the gardens, and a yoga deck built into the hillside with jungle views.

The daily structure is consistent: wake up, do yoga and meditation, eat breakfast, then either attend a workshop or have free time. Workshops rotate through the week — one day you're learning to fold palm-leaf offerings (canang sari) with Balinese women; another day you're cooking local dishes; another you're learning basic movements of traditional Balinese dance. Afternoons include a second yoga session, and most days you'll also have a massage scheduled (a 30-minute session one day, 60-minute aromatherapy sessions on others).

The yoga is taught by Eli, a Balinese woman who's been practising for over a decade. She started with Hatha and moved into vinyasa flow, training with both Balinese and Indian teachers. Her classes link breath and movement in the vinyasa style, and she also teaches meditation. The sessions are suitable for beginners through advanced — the focus is on awareness and consistency rather than peak poses.

Meals are all included and served buffet-style at the open-air restaurant. Breakfast is fresh tropical fruit, smoothies, salad, and jamu (a traditional Indonesian medicinal drink); lunch and dinner feature red rice, noodles, fresh vegetables, soups, and a meat option. There's always fresh coconut from the property's own trees, herbal teas, and Balinese coffee available throughout the day.

The location is remote — that's the point. You're not here to hit the beach clubs or the Ubud cafes. You're here to be somewhere quiet, surrounded by jungle and rice fields, with a small group of people doing the same thing. If you want nightlife or shopping, this isn't it. If you want to learn how to make offerings and eat well and do yoga twice a day without a packed schedule, it's a good fit.
