Home › Retreats › Blue Zen Island Retreat: Yoga and Snorkelling on Caye Caulker, Belize
Belize · 6 days
The retreat is built around a simple rhythm: yoga and meditation in the morning, an excursion or free time in the middle of the day, dinner together in the evening. Practices happen on the Nirvana Penthouse rooftop, which has 360-degree views of the island and an outdoor kitchen and lounge area. The penthouse is also the group's home base for daily continental breakfast.
Blu Zen Resort sits on the waterfront on Caye Caulker. It has three outdoor swimming pools, beachfront access, a fitness centre overlooking the pool and sea, on-site restaurants with indoor and open-air dining, a pool bar with cocktails and lounger service, an on-site café and convenience market, and Bambú Spa for massages, facials, body treatments and salon services. Wi-Fi runs throughout the resort.
The water is the main event outside the mat. Snorkelling along the Belize Barrier Reef puts you over coral and reef fish; the trip also includes swimming with stingrays and looking out for manatees. A separate day is spent sailing through the Caribbean, with lunch provided on board. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed — the retreat says so plainly.
What separates this from a generic island yoga week is the accommodation setup. The Nirvana Penthouse is a five-bedroom unit with a fully equipped kitchen, oversized dining and living areas, a private terrace, and the rooftop that doubles as the yoga space. The alternative, the two-bedroom Sea-View Residence, has a full kitchen, two bathrooms, spacious living and dining areas, and a private terrace — it is booked for four guests travelling together.
Raelynn Deaton Haynes owns Willow Gardens Yoga. She is an E-RYT 500 yoga teacher, a certified Pilates and Barre instructor, a teacher trainer, and lectures in anatomy at Texas State University. She holds a master's degree and a PhD in Biology and Zoology. She has trained across multiple yoga and movement traditions, and she leads the daily practices herself.
Caye Caulker itself is small and walkable, with a laid-back pace — no cars to speak of, and the split at the island's north end is a well-known swimming spot. The retreat builds in unhurried time on purpose: swim, paddle, wander, or do nothing. The schedule leaves gaps between practices for exactly that.
