Home › Retreats › Caribbean Yoga & Fitness Week: Beachfront Training, Organic Meals & River Tubing in Cabarete
Dominican Republic · 8 days
A typical day starts early, because the yoga loft faces the sea and the light is best then. Morning yoga runs before breakfast, followed by breakfast at the organic beachfront restaurant. Mid-morning there's a group fitness class in the Tiki gym, which sits right on the sand — sessions rotate through plyometrics, calisthenics and strength work, and the coach scales each one to the people in the room. After that the day is yours until evening yoga and dinner. If you want more, the gym and the yoga loft stay open outside class hours.
The fitness side isn't a single discipline. Because the programme is designed to introduce something new most days, you might do jumping and explosive work one morning, bodyweight strength the next, and aerials or flying trapeze at the hotel on another. The yoga is the constant: an in-depth class morning and evening, every day, which is what most guests say changes how they feel by the end of the week. It's also the reason people who arrive stiff and stressed tend to be moving noticeably better by day four.
The setting does a lot of the work. The Yoga Loft is on Kite Beach in Cabarete, and the yoga space looks straight out at the water. Cabarete has reliable wind and warm weather all year, which is why the beach in front is full of kitesurfers and surfers. In free time guests swim, sunbathe, read on the sand, or walk into town. The surrounding area is worth exploring on foot or by scooter if you want a change of scene.
What separates this from a generic beach yoga week is the food and the farm. Breakfast and dinner are served at the organic beachfront restaurant, and much of what you eat is grown on the property's own farm. Midweek there's an included trip to that farm, with river tubing and a fresh farm meal — it's the day most guests single out afterwards. You also get a complimentary one-to-one Eat Well session with the nutritionist, which is practical rather than preachy: it's about what to eat when you get home.
Groups are deliberately small so the programme can be adapted to individual needs, and the team asks about your goals and experience when you arrive. That means a beginner and a regular gym-goer can be in the same week without either being bored or thrown in too deep. The whole thing runs year-round, so you can pick a week that fits your calendar rather than waiting for a scheduled departure.
Reviews from past guests tend to mention two things: how relaxed they felt by the end, and how much better they understood their own body after a week of daily yoga and fitness advice. One guest from the USA wrote that the food was all local and homegrown and that she was coming back — the kind of note that tells you more than any brochure line.
