Mornings follow one of two patterns. On hiking days you catch an early train, around 6:00, to the trailhead and eat a packed breakfast on the way. The other mornings start with a Strength + Flow class at 8:30 and breakfast at the farmhouse at 9:30. Strength + Flow is Sarah's own class: bodyweight strength work that finishes with a short, gentle yoga flow. It is set up for all levels, and many past guests had never done one before.
Afternoons are free and lunch is not included, so you can eat wherever you like. After a hike that usually means stopping in whichever village you finish in, maybe climbing up to its church, then taking the train back to Levanto. Other days people walk into Levanto for lunch and a swim, or stay at the pool. At 5:30 p.m. there is yin yoga with a sound bath on the terrace. EJ teaches it with long holds of 3 to 7 minutes, which helps after a day on steep stairs. Dinner is at 7:00, and evenings are card games, reading, or a walk among the fireflies.
The trip has more structure than a typical yoga holiday and more free time than a guided trek. The three Cinque Terre hikes cover most of the coast, from Monterosso in the north to Portovenere beyond Riomaggiore in the south, and the farm is a quiet place to come back to instead of a crowded village hotel. The pesto class is a good fit for the area too, since Liguria is where pesto comes from.
EJ is an E-RYT 500 yoga teacher, certified sound healer and breathwork facilitator with more than 10 years of teaching. She has been lead teacher on 200-hour teacher trainings in India, Malta, Indonesia and Colorado, and she runs a sound healing certification course in Breckenridge. Sarah Creech is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and Restorative Wellness Practitioner who works mainly on gut health and functional testing. She also holds 200-hour Power Yoga, 100-hour Yoga Sculpt and Spinning certifications. The two have led trips together before, in Sayulita, Portugal, Croatia and Italy.
Levanto is a coastal town of about 5,000 people in La Spezia province, with a beach, a compact old centre and a station on the main Cinque Terre line, which makes it easy to get around without a car. The farm sits on the hill above town in Mediterranean scrub, and most rooms look out to the sea. There is a lot of walking, including the 20-minute climb from town back up to the farm. If you don't want to walk, local taxis can take you.
