Home › Retreats › Cold Hawaii Surf & Watersports Camp with Deluxe Guesthouse Stay
Denmark · 2 days · From EUR 1999
Mornings at the camp start with a check on conditions and a decision about which water sport you're doing that day. Surf and SUP lessons run 2 hours — roughly 10–20 minutes of theory on the beach, then 60–90 minutes in the water. Windsurf and wingsurf lessons are longer at 3 hours, with 30–45 minutes of theory and 90–120 minutes on the water. Instructors are surfers themselves and safety is treated as the first priority rather than an afterthought.
After your lesson, the day is yours. The wristband you get at check-in is your ticket to the equipment bank, and you can keep surfing, paddling or skating for as long as you like, in either Klitmøller or Vorupør. Soft and hardtop surfboards, soft and hardtop SUPs, all the neoprene, bodyboards, skimboards and skate-longboards are all free to borrow. The beach sauna is wood-fired and free, with a view of the North Sea; bring your own firewood and warm up after a cold session.
The accommodation is at Guesthouse Klitmøller, which runs more like a hotel than a hostel — duvets, pillows, sheets and towels are all provided. There's a large covered lounge area, a big terrace looking out over the dunes with Klitmøller Å running past, and a well-equipped shared kitchen. You're in the centre of town, close to the surf spots, Thy National Park and the shops and restaurants.
What separates this from a standard surf school week is the choice. Most camps lock you into one discipline; here you can surf one day, wingfoil the next and SUP the day after, using the same included equipment across two locations. The guesthouse standard is also a step above the usual surf-camp dorm setup.
It's worth knowing what isn't included: transport to the day's activity isn't provided, so you'll need your own way of getting between Klitmøller, Hanstholm and Vorupør. In high season there's a barbecue every Wednesday from weeks 27–32, and outside of that the camp doesn't organise social events — though you'll get a list of recommended local restaurants and things to do in Thy National Park when you book.
